Since I began metal detecting just a couple of years ago, post covid, I have had some amazing metal detector finds in England, it just goes to show that you can come a long way in this hobby, in a relatively short period of time. From Novice to Passionate Detectorist: A Journey Through Time

It’s hard to believe that my metal detecting journey began just a couple of years ago, in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. What started as a way to spend time outdoors and maintain social distancing quickly blossomed into a full-blown passion. In this relatively short span, I’ve been fortunate enough to make some truly remarkable discoveries that have deepened my connection to England’s rich past.

A Glimpse into England’s Hidden Heritage

The finds you’ll see here range from ancient Roman artifacts to medieval treasures and beyond. Each item represents countless hours of research, patience, and sometimes just a bit of luck. From a beautiful Roman childs fibula brooch to a beautifully preserved medieval pilgrims ampulla, these objects offer tangible links to the people who walked these lands centuries ago.

The Thrill of Discovery: Notable Finds

Among my most prized discoveries is a rare medieval horse harness pendant, found in a farmer’s field that had been ploughed for centuries. Another memorable find is part of a Bronze Age axe head. Each of these finds has not only enriched my personal collection but has also contributed to our understanding of local history.

More Than Just Treasure: The Historical Significance

While the glitter of gold and silver is undeniably exciting, some of my most historically significant finds are more modest in appearance, a saddle pommel, a purse bar, some crotal bells.

It’s important to note that all of these finds have been properly recorded with the Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS). This ensures that the archaeological context of each discovery is preserved and that the information is available to researchers and historians.
